Subject: Kattack tracking  Sent: 08/02/2023 08:24 pm GMT

The tracker isn't quite set up correctly yet, we're working with Kattack to correct it. Please bear with us for a moment..

Kattack highly recommends that you have someone on the boat with an iPhone do the tracking.

“The newer versions of the Android O/S, anything 10.0 or newer have severe restrictions on location services (Kattack uses to get location). The Kattack App must remain in the foreground and the phone screen unlocked in order for the App to work. This basically renders the App useless because everyone’s phone screen locks at some point or they take a call and the App goes into the background.  For this reason we have pulled the App from the Google play store.”

Subject: Special note from the State Board of Pilots  Sent: 08/03/2023 04:02 pm GMT

All Competitors,

Ships are restricted in their ability to maneuver and have the right of way.
Large ships may appear slow but can do 16-20 Knots, they cannot stop quickly.

Captain John Kinlein, State Board of Pilots member of the Association of Maryland Pilots (757-679-6244) shared the following advice for competitors:

Competitors tacking across the shipping lanes in the Chesapeake Bay is the most difficult to deal with for them.
Keep a sharp watch, don't rely solely on AIS.
The large, fast ships will generally be in ~60 Ft of water, the smaller ships will be in shallower water (~30-50 Ft)
Ships use Channel 13 for communication, competitors should monitor VHF Channel 13 in addition to Channel 16.
In emergency if you need to quickly hail a ship bridge crew, use Channel 13.
(They monitor Channel 16 but generally in the radio room, not directly on the bridge.)
