Get ready for one of the most thrilling inland sailing races in the United States! The Great River Race, now in its 53rd year, is a landmark event for sailors looking to test their skills and endurance on the breathtaking waters of the Tennessee River and Alabama Mountain Lakes region.

Courses and Classes

There are two courses available, each with its own set of classes:

  • Long Course: A four-lap race with a 24-hour time limit, open exclusively to keelboats.
  • Short Course: A one-lap race with a 9-hour time limit, featuring both keelboat and dinghy classes.

Awards will be presented for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each class. The time limit for the Long Course is 24 hours, while the Short Course has a time limit of 9 hours. Course lengths may be adjusted based on conditions, and any decision to shorten the Long Course will be made by 2:00 AM on Sunday, October 27.

Note: All Long Course boats must have at least one crew member.
